Sebastiaan Princen (PhD, University of Utrecht)

e-mail: S.Princen@usg.uu.nl

Sebastiaan Princen is assistant professor at the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands). He holds an MA in public administration and public policy studies from the University of Twente (The Netherlands). In April 2002, he obtained a PhD from the University of Utrecht for his dissertation 'The California Effect in the Transatlantic Relationship', which has been published as 'EU Regulation and Transatlantic Trade' (The Hague: Kluwer Law International, 2002). In 2003, the dissertation won the annual dissertation award from the Dutch Political Science Association (NKWP).

After a one-year spell as researcher and consultant at the Netherlands Economic Institute in Rotterdam, Sebastiaan joined the Utrecht School of Governance at the University of Utrecht in November 2002. His research and teaching focus on issues of international and European governance. His current research deals with agenda setting in the European Union (EU), focusing on the fields of environmental and health policy. The central question is how the EU’s political agenda has evolved over time and why certain issues have made it onto the agenda while others have not. To this end, he has collected a database of European Parliament and European Commission documents on environmental and health policies between the mid-1970s and 2005, using the Policy Agendas Project's coding scheme.
